Human Rights and Digital Transformation
Challenges for Education

Digitization and the digital transformation have penetrated almost all societies and generations today and have already led to disruptions in many areas. This means not only new challenges for education and human rights, but also exciting opportunities that should be included in the human rights education debate. Within this framework, the Centre for Human Rights Education (ZMRB) of the University of Teacher Education (PH Luzern) is planning the 12th International Human Rights Forum Lucerne (IHRF) 2019 on the topic "Human Rights and Digital Transformation - Challenges for Education" on 17 May 2019.
The 12th IHRF 2019 focuses on the following three main topics and the associated questions:
- What are "digital skills" and what role do they play in dealing with the digital transformation in education and for the protection of human rights?
- How can the transfer of digital competences in education contribute to promoting social competence, i.e. to preventing negative phenomena such as discrimination, agitation and bullying?
- How do the participatory opportunities of people in the digital world change decision-making and learning processes?
Digital Human Rights
- What are "Digital Human Rights" and how and what exactly do they protect?
- What role do those rights play that deal with guarantees of freedom, political participation and the social participation of people in political and social discourse in a digital environment?
- Can Digital Human Rights protect, promote and involve people in their rights in the digital age, and how does this happen?
Right to Education in the Digital Age
- Do the developments of the digital transformation strengthen or endanger the right to education?
- What measures do those responsible for education need to take in order to fully guarantee the right to education in the digital age?
The programme of the 12th IHRF 2019 will be announced at the end of January 2019. Registration will also start at the end of January 2019.
